Mountain Adventure Guides dba USA Raft offers whitewater rafting in North Carolina and Tennessee on the French Broad River, Nolichucky River Gorge, Lower Nolichucky River and Watauga River. We're located near Asheville and Boone, NC, and Johnson City, TN.

We also offer guided caving and rock climbing in NC and TN, a large group cabin bunkhouse on the Nolichucky River, group adventure packages, Summer Adventure Camps for kids and teens in NC and TN and a whitewater rafting guide training school, instructed by Glenn Goodrich, the Godfater of whitewater rafting according to Paddler Magazine.

Whitewater rafting and rock climbing are available March through November. Caving is available year around.

The French Broad and Nolichucky Rivers are the closest whitewater rafting to Asheville, NC - just 30 or 45 min. The Nolichucky and Watauga Rivers are the closest whitewater rafting to the High Country of Boone, Banner Elk and Blowing Rock in NC, and Johnson City, TN.

Summer Adventure Camps. Summer Camps in NC and TN: learn outdoor skills, make new friends and have fun. Each day campers will experience different adventure based activities, followed by camping in tents or tarps in a scenic mountain setting. Depending on the program you choose, activities offered include whitewater rafting, backpacking, rock climbing and caving. Activities are age appropriate and include comprehensive instruction. French Broad River: Marshall, NC, near Asheville, NC. A wonderful introduction to whitewater rafting the whole family will enjoy. It is the favorite whitewater rafting trip for vacationers to the Asheville, Lake Lure, Black Mountain and Burnsville, NC region. Class 2-3, 4. Ages 8+. No experience required.

Nolichucky River Gorge: Erwin, TN, between Asheville, NC and Johnson City, TN. With over 25 named class 2-4 rapids in truly pristine wilderness, the Nolichucky River Gorge is one of the top rafting adventures in the entire east! USA Raft is the only Nolichucky River outfitter that offers both a full and half day trip in the Nolichucky River Gorge. Located near Asheville, NC (45 min.) and Boone, NC (up to 1.5 hrs) and Johnson City, TN. The Nolichucky River Gorge is certainly the most adventurous rafting trip in Western NC and East TN. Class 4. Ages 10+. No experience required.

Lower Nolichucky River: Erwin, TN, between Asheville, NC and Johnson City, TN. The Lower Nolichucky River is a magical place. Beauty and history abound in this area - it's Daniel Boone and Davey Crockett country! Imagine a relaxed family outing with time to swim, a chance to see Blue Herons and spectacular rock formations along the way! Located near Asheville, NC (45 min.) and Boone, NC (up to 1.5 hrs) and Johnson City, TN. Class 1-2. Ages 4+. No experience required.

Watauga River: Elizabethton, TN. The Watauga River is an excellent first time family rafting trip and is a wonderful introduction to rafting. The Watauga River is a class 1-2, 3 rafting trip on fast moving, pristine water with gentle rapids. Near Roan Mountain, TN and less than an hour to Boone, Banner Elk and Blowing Rock in the High Country region of NC. Ages 4+. No experience required.

Worley's Cave: Bluff City, TN. (available year around). We will travel through passages that are hundreds of millions of years old and visit vast rooms, such as “Fairies Ballroom,” “Tombstone,” and “Giant’s Causeway.” Near Roan Mountain, TN and less than an hour to Boone, Banner Elk and Blowing Rock in the High Country region of NC. 1.5 hours to Asheville, NC. Ages 8+. No experience required.

Guided NC Rock Climbing Experiences: Offered in the mountains outside Asheville, NC . Our experiential format will quickly get you out on the rock. Your guide will fit you with all technical gear, including climbing shoes. No experience is required and Mountain Adventure Guides provides all of the gear and an experienced rock climbing guide.

Crockett Cabin: Erwin, TN. Crockett Cabin is a rustic log cabin bunkhouse, located on the banks of the Nolichucky River, near Erwin, TN. Constructed before the civil war in Kentucky from giant poplar logs, Crockett Cabin was refurbished and relocated to the Nolichucky in the early 1980s. The Appalachian Trail and Nolichucky River are adjacent to the Nolichucky property and there are thousands of acres of nearby National Forest for hiking and fishing.

Adventure Packages for Groups of 9+ people: Erwin, TN. Your package could include whitewater rafting in NC or TN and caving, lodging in Crockett Cabin group bunkhouse and all meals.

Raft guide training, raft guide school, raft guide jobs. Raft Guide Training School is designed for prospective commercial river guides with USA Raft on the French Broad, Watauga and Nolichucky Rivers. Learn the basics of raft guiding including, water reading skills, hydrology, raft maneuvers, paddle techniques, river scouting and river rescue techniques. This will lay the groundwork for honing your Class II-IV whitewater skills. We strongly recommend taking the American Red Cross First Aid & CPR course before training.
